Artusi’s been hard at work over the summer. Check out the list of
improvements below. Top new features are:
- Figured Bass exercises can have partial scores, requiring particular solutions.
- Search Artusi textbooks and your own assignments — never misplace an exercise!
- Control student accommodations, such as extra time or blind access, from your own gradebook.
These are in addition to the
top features of Spring 2025
which include:
- Artusi: Music Theory Now covers phrases, forms, and embellishments.
- A new Roman numeral editor makes it easier to compose Chord Progression exercises.
- You can now leave comments on student work from the Review Questions page of the gradebook.
- Form diagrams can now be created and edited from text editors in assignments and exercises (learn more)
And here’s what’s new in the summer:
August 2025
- (August 26) Course settings for scale degrees vs. solfège will be used throughout more of the site. A new way of putting both solfège and scale degrees together (<hat-and-solfege>) is being rolled out.
- (August 22) Clarify which randomness settings allow multiple submissions and which only allow one.
- (August 21) Cadence Identification (Written) Gains 3 new levels: Level 6: Phrygian, Plagal, or other Cadences; Level 7: All Cadences, Equally Likely, and Level 8: All Cadences, Without Sound.
- (August 20) Make it easier to use an uploaded audio file for high quality melodic dictation.
- (August 19) Restore the ability to create Melodic Dictation in unusual meters such as
. - (August 18) Better instructions on the "tap along with rhythm" (Pulse Identification) exercises.
- (August 17) Updates to the look and feel of the site to make it easier for instructors and students to know where they are in the site and what is next to do.
- (August 13) LTI 1.3 support in Artusi! Contact tech support if you're planning on using this in your classes so we can help get it set up.
- (August 12) Huge new repertory of sight singing melodies and rhythms for exercises.
- (August 11) You can now specify notes in the student solution for Figured Bass exercises just like in chord progressions.
- (August 11) Questions for review in your gradebook appear as notifications in the side navigation of your instructor dashboard.
- (August 6) Chord Progressions: you can now require a specific chord factor in the soprano of the student solution.
- (August 6) Chord Progressions can now require a PAC (perfect authentic cadence) or IAC (imperfect authentic cadence).
- (August 5) Multiple Choice exercises: when there are limited attempts, exercises now indicate this in the student instruction text.
July 2025
- (July 30) You can now edit student accommodation information from the Enrollments page. (Click the “gear” icon next to the student’s name.)
- (July 27) Improvements to updating of profiles make it easier for students to have accurate photos to help instructors.
- (July 18) Counterpoint checks for succession of intervals errors give more specific feedback to students than before.

(July 9) Create multiple versions of figured basses with a simple
“copy existing” button. (Also applies to cantus firmi, and melodies,
rhythms, and progressions for dictation.)
- (July 1) Artusi welcomes Josh Gottry as Theory and Content Specialist focusing on creating new Sight Reading and Sight Singing assignments.
June 2025
- (June 30) You can now do a text-based search for existing exercises to add to your assignment.
- (June 27) Improved CSV download in the gradebook: more options for which assignment types to include.
- (June 26) The gradebook table now has shortcuts for viewing student work and administering assignment makeups.
- (June 26) Simplified the steps for adding students and instructors to your course from the Enrollments page.
- (June 23) Student accommodation information now appears in their gradebook profile page.
- (June 23) Lessons from Music Theory Now: Volume II are now publicly available without an Artusi account. (Create an account to access worksheets and other materials.)
- (June 17) Made it more difficult for students to accidentally fail to submit Embellishing tone creation exercises.
- (June 10) You can now click and drag Course Announcements to reorder them.
- (June 1) Key-establishing progressions in dictation exercises now follow SATB ranges.
